Big Bend has been on my list of parks to visit for a long time. I feel very fortunate to be one of the few visitors to this park, and even more fortunate to have shared this experience with my Love and two of the most genuine friends I've ever had. Big Bend was good to us.
I started this series four years ago. Each jump is a symbol of change, strength and hope. Change that is coming, strength that is needed, and hope for the future.
Sunshine, waves, and salty air were just what we needed to kick off our Summer. South Padre Island is by far the best beach in Texas. It's hotel landscape, beach bar access, and untouched stretches of shore line, keeps us coming back time and again.
Taking bluebonnet pictures is about as Texas as it gets. If you are lucky enough to know any native Texans then you know that we are a proud people, to say the least. "Everything's bigger in Texas". "Texas. It's like a whole other country". "Don't mess with Texas"- yeah, I'd say we love our state, and that admiration and hint of ego extends all the way to our state flower. Every spring as soon as those deep-blue, white tipped beauties start poking their heads out of the dirt lining Texas highways, you can bet your best pair of boots there will soon be hoards of people pulling over to capture it. This year, Tony and I joined them.
We used to drive by Palmetto State Park on our way to more far flung retreats and say, "we should go there sometime"... If only we knew what we were missing we would have visited sooner.
It's a beautiful mixture of forest, swampy marsh, and prairie.
Palmetto State Park, you are enchanting, and we will return soon.
